DVD Review: The Boston Red Sox 2007 World Series Collector’s Edition

As a card carrying member of Red Sox Nation, I suffered many years before that magical season in 2004, when my beloved team finally won a championship after eighty-six years of disappointments. Even though I’ll never forget that night in October 1986, when that slow roller down the first base line went through Bill Buckner’s legs, after two championships in three seasons, that all seems like a distant memory.

For Red Sox fans who want to relive some great moments of the 2007 season, A&E and Major League Baseball recently released The Boston Red Sox 2007 World Series Collector’s Edition. This eight DVD set presents games five, six and seven of the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Indians and the World Series against the Colorado Rockies in its entirety.

In 2007, the Red Sox posted the best record in Major League Baseball at 96-66. On the brink of elimination in the ALCS, the Red Sox won three straight games over the Indians to punch a ticket into the fall classic. The Colorado Rockies cane into the series on an incredible run, having won 21 of 22 games. The Red Sox swept the Rockies in four games to earn their seventh World Series title in team history.

The Boston Red Sox 2007 World Series Collector’s Edition allows fans to relive Josh Beckett’s nine strike-out performance, as his team became the first club to bat around with two outs, in the World Series opener. There’s always the excitement of game 2, a 2-1 victory by wily veteran Curt Schilling. Fiery closer Jonathan Papelbon recorded his first career pickoff when he caught Matt Holliday (the tying run) off first base. With two more doubles in game four, the Red Sox raised their total for the series to eighteen, which set a new World Series record. You the viewer will get to decide if it was the stellar pitching or the powerful offense that brought the Red Sox the 2007 World Series Championship.

A&E and Major League Baseball have done a wonderful job putting this DVD set together. The video is presented in Dolby digital stereo, widescreen format for a crystal clear picture and crisp sound. The complete game DVDs include enhanced, alternative audio tracks that allow you to customize your viewing experience by choosing which announcers to hear, play-by-play from FOX Sports, the Red Sox Radio Network, the Colorado Rockies Radio network, and Fox Sports en Espanol TV Sportscasters. This was one of my favorite features, because listening to Joe Buck & Tim McCarver for an extended period gets boring it’s great to get different perspectives.

The bonus DVD includes:
• On-field and locker room celebrations
• 2007 World Series Trophy and MVP presentation
• AL Eastern Division and ALDS clinching highlights
• 2007 highlights: four consecutive homeruns against the New York Yankees, Kevin Youkillis’ inside-the-park homerun; the last out of Clay Bucholz’s no-hitter against the Orioles; David Ortiz’ walk-off homerun; and extended, exclusive interviews with Red Sox players.

With over twenty hours of the Red Sox run to the World Series title, The Boston Red Sox 2007 World Series Collector’s Edition would make the perfect gift or addition to any Red Sox fans memorabilia collection.
