DVD Review: Nip/Tuck: The Complete Third Season

| | Comments (0)

From the day Nip/Tuck premiered on FX on July 22, 2003, it was clear this wasn’t your run of the mill standard cable medical show. Nip/Tuck pushed the boundaries of medical ethics, sex, and family values and seemed to enjoy every minute of it — kind of E.R. meets the sex of N.Y.P.D. Blue meets something new.

Led by John Phillips, the Mamas and the Papas were one of the seminal pop/folk groups of the mid to late sixties. During the bands brief run as a fixture on the billboard charts, Phillips wrote such classics as “California Dreamin,’” “Creque Alley,” and “Monday, Monday.”

Music Review: Omar - Sing (If You Want It)

| | Comments (0)

Omar is considered by many to be the founder of nu-classic British soul. After a five year layoff, Omar has released his sixth album, Sing (If You Want It). With guest appearances by Stevie Wonder, Common, Angie Stone, and Estelle among others, Omar has created upbeat, soul infused dance music, mixed with romantic vibes. On his website, Omar says of Sing (If You Want It), "This time I wanted something a bit more funky, something to put my music back into the clubs. I still use the live instruments and the strings when I feel them, 'cause that's me, but the kick and the snare are much louder this time." Omar has used a lot of hip-hop beats to give Sing (If You Want It) a faster, more urban sound than any of his other previous releases.

Music Review: Fergie - The Dutchess

I first saw Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson on the 1980’s television show Kids Incorporated. While the show didn’t indicate that Fergie had great vocal chops, she definitely had a knack for the stage and performing. After minor success in the late 1990’s with a group called Wild Orchid, Fergie joined with the members of the Black Eyed Peas to record their album Elephunk. In 2002 she anchored their mega-hit “Let’s Get It Started” as well as “My Humps” off their follow up album, Monkey Business.
